The Mutiarian Benteng
Sector A's Premier Benteng
This is one of the three benteng sites within the campus. The Mutiarian benteng is not only an alternative for Mutiarians, Nilamians, and Baidurians when the Sri Pegaga is out of lauk or just not very good that day; but also a common place to see lecturers, pak guards and other UiTM staff when they want a bite to eat.
The Place
This benteng is the favourite benteng of the Joey and the Wombat. Not because its the closest, but because it's the least frustrating, the most orderly, and has the most delicious food.
As this review is about the benteng site (since the actual gerais themselves are routinely rotated occasionally), the benteng between the three female colleges by Sector A is shaded by big leafy trees, which allows you to sit outside and enjoy the breeze without having to be in the sun. This benteng used to have claypot dishes in addition to the usual gerai melayu fare of the various nasi-nasi goreng, nasi pattaya, the various kuey teow, and the bihun variations. Although that stall is gone now, the benteng Mutiara has now has an addition of a burger stand that is famous for its various "burger blackpepper"(the Wombat and I love ours with cheese) that is run by one of the abang that works at the HEP during the day together with his friend. An even more recent addition is the "steamboat lido" stand that premiered during the Business Week Carnival at the Dataran As-Syakirin not long ago. Here, you can get a 4 sticks of chopped up steamboat goodies with yummy sauce for as little as a dollar.
What is notable about this benteng is that firstly, unlike Uptown, the gerais at this benteng do have a system, and its unlikely that you'll be watching the girl-who-just-ordered-10-minutes-ago enjoy her meal before you do. Also notable is the abang who does the air at the gerai Kak Ina, who goes by the name of Ali (I think). This guy can really make air (thats air=water btw). ^^
This benteng is not only popular among the Sector A girls, but among lecturers, guards, maintenance staff and other UiTM staff, but also our neighbours from SR and TS. I don't know about these new juniors, but the seniors from SR and TS used to be regulars around the place too. Too bad they're all living outside now. In any case, the Mutiarian benteng is a valid temptation from the Dining..
Evaluation:
Menu: Standard gerai food, with the addition of blackpepper burgers and cheap steamboat on sticks.
Price: Prices here have been pretty good, especially since the dinings implemented the cafe system.. Ahh, sweet capitalism..
Seating capacity: 50+
Location: Take the road up the hill from the Stor Pusat; located in a leafy clearing between Baiduri, Nilam and Mutiara.
Opening Hours: 2.30pm+ -10pm (Sundays to Fridays)
Additional Notes: Take care when ordering on Thursdays, they get flooded with Yasin orders.
The Joey's Rating: I love this place.
